There are 2 very important things to look at when determining the right treatment and products for you. The first one is skin type, the second is a skin condition.
SKIN TYPE
Skin types are genetically determined (it is what you are born with).
NORMAL SKIN
NORMAL SKIN TREATMENT
Normal skin has a good oil to water balance, pores are a normal size and the skin is usually free of blemishes.
Maintain the balance by using products with good water to oil ratio, focus on preventative care.
Some ideal foods for normal skin: Watermelon, Onion, Cucumber, Mushroom
COMBINATION SKIN
COMBINATION SKIN TREATMENT
This skin type can be both dry and oily in different areas on the face. The outer areas of the face can be normal to dry and can even appear flaky due to dehydration or build-up of dead skin cells. If the follicle size looks medium to large outside the t zone such as on the cheeks that is an indication of combination and dehydration.
Combination skin can be a little tricky, it needs to be balanced. You need to treat the oily areas separate from the dryer areas a combination of masks can help with this. By using a clay mask on the oily areas you can absorb the oil, and by using a gel mask over the dry areas you can hydrate the dry skin. Water-based products work best.
Some foods good for combination skin: Fish, Broccoli, Oranges, Bananas
OILY SKIN
Oily skin also known as lipidic skin has an excessive sebum (oil) production. The pore size appears large and contains more oil. This skin type can get a lot of blemishes because it builds up with dead skin cells and sebum making this a great place for bacteria. The good thing about this skin type is that the extra secreted oils act as a protective layer slowing the signs of aging.
OILY SKIN TREATMENT
Oily skin needs a good cleansing and exfoliation that being said, over-cleansing and exfoliating can make matters worse by stripping the skins acid mantle. It causes the skin to produce more oils to make up for the lack of. Water-based products are the best. Remember that what we take we must give back so when you clean and exfoliate we must hydrate, and moisturize. Minimizing carbohydrate consumption can help improve the quality of oily skin.
Some foods good for oily skin: Mug beans, Berries, Bitter melon, Lemon, Grapefruit, apples, grapes and, celery.
DRY SKIN
Dry skin does not produce enough sebum (oil). Our skin's natural oil production helps protect it from environmental damage and aging. Dry skin needs extra care because it lacks its natural protection. This skin type is more sensitive because the acid mantle and barrier function are not as healthy due to lack of lipid production. The pores are very small. It may appear dull and flaky and feel rough and tight you may even show signs of premature aging wrinkles.
DRY SKIN TREATMENT
Dry skin needs oil-rich products, hydrating cleansers, and toners. Exfoliation is important to help get rid of dead skin cells lying on the surface and helps stimulate oil production. Drinking lots of water is also important. Occlusive products can help as they are thick and lay on top of the skin to protect against transepidermal water loss. (Remember dry skin lacks oil, dehydrated skin lacks water).
Foods good for dry skin: Honey, Pears Olives, Cabbage, Honeydew, Bananas.

HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE
Many things determine your skin type and condition such as genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. Your genetic code is a predisposition of what your skin will be or act like. It can be hard to fight against that.
When it comes to environmental there are many ways to keep your skin healthy. Did you know the sun causes 80% of all your aging! When we are in the sun our body reacts by sending certain cells called melanocytes a signal that produces melanin. Melanin is a pigment (color) made in our skin. It travels up through our skin cells and surrounds the nucleus inside each skin cell to protect it from radiation genetic damage. There is no way of fully protecting our selves from this damage yet, but we can help by covering up or wearing sunscreen.
Another thing to watch out for are free radicals. These come from atoms. All atoms have an invisible cloud of electrons floating around them and sometimes these electrons break away and fly off on their own.
These electrons are very unstable particles. So when they come into contact with something else they can damage it. These particles are all around us all the time, so that is why it is important to wash your face and body at the end of the day to clear off as much of these particles as we can, as these can become so damaging they cause irritation leading to many future healthcare problems.
When it comes to lifestyle factors there are many things to look at so many things it is mind-boggling. Your diet is a big thing, our body is like a plant we need a lot of water to help our bodies move things around well, including the lymphatic system, circulatory system, digestive system and more. All of these are important to your body's whole health.
In the box below there are videos that can help give you a more visual understanding of each of these groups I have discussed.
